How to Care for Monstera Deliciosa White Tear
Light
Provide bright indirect light.
Because the white portions of variegated leaves contain little or no chlorophyll, a White Tear generally benefits from stronger light than a fully green Monstera. However, intense direct sunlight can burn the pale areas.
A high-quality grow light is an excellent option for indoor growing, particularly during Canadian winters.
Water
Water thoroughly and allow the growing medium to partially dry before watering again.
Avoid keeping the root zone constantly saturated. Variegated Monsteras can be particularly frustrating when roots remain wet for too long because root problems can develop quickly.
Growing Medium
Use a loose, airy and well-draining substrate.
A suitable Monstera mix can include ingredients such as:
- Coco coir or quality potting mix
- Orchid bark
- Perlite or pumice
- Horticultural charcoal
The goal is to maintain a balance between moisture retention and good airflow around the roots.
Humidity
White Tear appreciates moderate to high humidity, particularly while establishing new roots and leaves.
Approximately 50–70% relative humidity works well for many indoor growing environments, although good airflow remains important.
Temperature
Keep the plant warm and away from cold drafts.
A range of approximately 18–28°C is suitable for active growth. Avoid placing the plant directly beside cold windows during winter.
Fertilizer
During active growth, feed regularly with a balanced fertilizer formulated for foliage plants.
Highly variegated plants still need adequate nutrition to support roots, stems and increasingly large leaves. Consistent feeding is generally preferable to excessively strong fertilizer applications.
